La Posadita
About This Spot
La Posadita welcomes you with the gentle ease of a neighborhood retreat perched above the vibrant heart of San Miguel de Allende. As you step onto its rooftop patio, a calm yet lively rhythm unfolds — one where the buzz of the town’s historic streets mingles softly with the warm light filtering through blooming jacarandas. It’s a place that invites you to settle in slowly, to savor moments both large and small against a backdrop of sweeping views that capture the city’s timeless charm.
The atmosphere feels thoughtfully unhurried, blending the familiar comforts of Mexican hospitality with unexpected touches of tenderness. Whether it’s the cozy nook embraced by friends and family or the quiet edge overlooking the cathedral’s silhouette, La Posadita carries a gentle pulse. Here, genuine care courses through every exchange — from patient hosts who notice the subtle shifts in your mood, to neighbors sharing laughter beneath a sky stretching wide and open.
Navigating the menu feels like discovering a local’s carefully curated story rather than ticking off dishes. Every bite connects you to the region’s layered flavors — rich mole infused into perfectly folded enchiladas, the soulful depth of cochinita pibil, or the fresh brightness wrapped inside shrimp tacos. Cocktails arrive as effortless companions, from a frozen margarita that carries just the right chill to a mojito dusted with just enough mint, refreshing without stealing the spotlight.
At La Posadita, food and drink are part of a wider celebration: the comfort found in kind service, the soft interplay between old and new surroundings, and the quiet generosity of a rooftop that captures not just the images, but the feeling of San Miguel at its most inviting. It’s a spot where time seems to stretch — made richer by shared smiles, a thoughtful gesture, or the simple joy of watching an acrobat weave through the nearby plaza as the sun begins to set.

It's been a while since we've been at La Posadita, so we were very happy to discover that the views, the service, and especially the food remain as excellent as ever. The front of the rooftop patio has some beautiful views of the parrocchia, but the back has even more spectacular high angle views of the western half of SMA... at this time of year, the Jacarandas are in full bloom. The menu is mainly classic Mexican, unlike the trendy fusion menu next door at Quince. We can heartily recommend the three mains we tried: the pompano chile filled with cheese, the enchiladas de los Portales, and the shrimp tacos. Cocktails are excellent and fairly priced. Service is friendly and professional.

Ernesto and Carlos provided excellent customer service. Detallistas los dos. My husband and I had lunch on the rooftop of La Posadita. Our food was exquisite and our drinks delectable. We had chips and guacamole with a sprinkle of alebrijes. My husband had the shrimp and cheese taquitos and I had the Chile Poblano en nogada. Highly recommend you visit La Posadita when visiting San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Exceptional mole enchiladas. Very good Chile en nogada. Tamarindo Margarita is a great frozen dessert. No pacing between courses, services very fast did not give us time to finish appetizers. Charming rooftop

Highly recommend. Our waiter was very patient and kind. The food was superb along with the view. The song came on that reminded me of something sad the past, and the waiter brought me some tissues for my tears, so sweet. You wont regret going to this restaurant.

Truly excellent Mexican food plus the most gorgeous views from the rooftop. Too bad it was my last night in town or I’d be back in a flash. Gracious and thoughtful service as well.

La Posadita was an unexpected surprise in every possible good way. We booked rooftop reservations for dinner same on the recommendation of a friend. Was not prepared for the view. It was gobsmacking. Food and drinks were top-level, much better than we found at more highly touted rooftops, and the service was perfect. Highly, highly recommend.

We love this place and it's actually upgraded to fine dining. The margaritas are also awesome! Great views in rooftop!
